Anonymous messaging with a choice about how you begin.
Whisperly lets you message as yourself or start an anonymous conversation request when the recipient allows it. Choose the mode deliberately before starting a conversation.
How anonymous messaging works in Whisperly
Open a person's profile and choose Message. The message choices include Message as yourself and Message anonymously. The anonymous option starts a conversation request and can be unavailable when the recipient is not receiving anonymous messages.
- Choose a person you want to contact and open their profile.
- Select Message to see the available conversation options.
- Choose Message anonymously if available, or Message as yourself if you want to use your profile identity.
- Write a respectful opening message. Check that the text does not disclose details you intended to keep private.
- Respect the recipient's decision about whether to continue.
Available options depend on recipient preferences and account conditions. If an option is disabled, do not try to get around that person's choice. For an unexpected technical problem, contact support.
Give your first message a clear purpose
A useful opening gives the recipient context without pressure. If you found them through a public post, refer to that topic: “I liked your drawing—what helped you practise shading?” is easier to respond to than a series of unexplained greetings.
If you only want to ask one question, the anonymous questions feature may fit better. Use messaging when you want room for a conversation, and avoid repeated requests when someone has not responded.
Anonymous messaging is not the same as invisible activity
The anonymous choice concerns how your identity is displayed in that interaction. It does not remove clues you include in messages or guarantee that content cannot be copied or shared by another person. Avoid sending sensitive personal information just because you selected anonymous mode.
Whisperly's privacy policy explains the information the service processes. This page does not claim end-to-end encryption, untraceability, disappearing messages or zero data retention.
Keep the conversation welcome
Whisperly supports recipient preferences for anonymous messages. Account restrictions and blocking can also affect messaging. If you receive abusive or unwanted content, use the app's reporting controls or reach the team through the trust and safety centre.
